Lidl foodstore at Wombourne Enterprise Park

The Site

The Wombourne Enterprise Park site lies on the southern edge of the Wombourne urban area, adjacent to Bridgnorth Road. The site currently contains a large industrial building which comprises a number of units across two storeys of accommodation. The building is currently occupied by several different businesses. The southern part of the site accommodates a number of smaller industrial buildings, which are to be retained as part of the proposals.

The Proposed Development

The proposed development comprises the demolition of a large existing industrial building at the north of the application site, and the erection of a Lidl foodstore, a further retail building which can be sub-divided depending on the needs of the eventual occupiers, plus a third building consisting of three industrial units.

The proposed foodstore will function as a neighbourhood store, to serve both day-to-day top-up and the main shopping needs of local residents. It will therefore predominantly feature the sale of convenience goods (foodstuffs), including a fresh bakery, in addition to a smaller proportion of comparison goods.

It can be expected to generate approximately 40 new jobs for local people, all of whom can expect to receive the UK Living Wage.

The smaller retail building will also provide an additional retail convenience space of a flexible nature. The new industrial building will assist with relocating those existing occupiers who wish to continue to stay and operate their businesses from the site. The new buildings are all designed to a high standard with the retail buildings featuring large glazed elevations which allow for an active and attractive frontage. Canopies provide articulation to the facades as well as shelter to the front.

The development will be served by a surface level car park providing approximately 191 free parking spaces (including disabled spaces and parent & child spaces). Vehicular access into the site will remain at the same point on Bridgnorth Road as existing, and an additional new pedestrian access will be created.
